As Plato is juxtaposed with Theaetetus’

work on irrationals so is love with death—

we’ve done it again, my friend, gone rushing

into analogies that are flat. The coming

of balms, frequent fragrances while one tries

to write, is soothing and leads

to no solace. You never could foresee

its denouement but had to begin.
